Counterfeiting presents a social problem, because the counterfeiters behind organizations pay no taxes, obey no laws, support organized crime, contribute to official corruption, often employ child and illegal immigrant labour and generally have no social conscience or fear of liability when it comes to the dangers posed to consumers. Even dangerous fake goods are injected into global trade by the counterfeing organizations. In some cases, the threat posed by counterfeiting manifests itself in horrific public health hazards. On the other side, counterfeiting is a direct attack on intellectual property. Therefore monitoring system to detect outright counterfeiting by fostering a management culture of awareness is necessary in order to avoid threats to national security by the counterfeiters.
